Traditional hot water heaters work by filling up a tank of water, and heating that water until it reaches around 125°. This temperature is maintained 24 hours a day so hot water is available for plumbing fixtures whenever needed. As hot water is removed from the tank, cold water is added to the bottom and the tank is heated again.
